Kiwano (Horned Melon)

A relative of the cucumber and melon (*Cucumis metuliferus*) from sub-Saharan Africa, armored in a spiky orange shell that opens onto lime-green, seed-filled jelly. The taste is mild and tart, nearer cucumber and lime than sweet melon, with a faint banana note. The seeds are edible and eaten along with the pulp.
