Dried Basil

The dehydrated leaves of the sweet basil plant (*Ocimum basilicum*). Unlike oregano or thyme, basil loses almost all of its complex, sweet, and anise-like volatile oils during the drying process, leaving behind a muted, slightly minty flavor that requires long simmering in tomato sauces to rehydrate and extract.
